Namaste Nepal

Features a track by Steve Woodzell

Namaste Nepal is a documentary directed by Matt McCroskey that follows a group of suburban American students on a month-long trip to Nepal. During filming, a number of field recordings were made of Napalese musicians performing traditional songs and dances. McCroskey sought to incorporate these recordings into the film via sampling and reinterpretation, the combination of traditional Nepali music and hip-hop mirroring the mingling of cultures experienced by the American students and their Nepalese counterparts. Two tracks were produced sampling the field recordings, using the melody and rhythm of the songs to guide the arrangement, the second of which is featured in the last two thirds of the film’s trailer.
